Frequently asked questions

How much does HGV Nav cost?

HGV Nav offers two subscription options, both including every feature:

  • Monthly: £4.99/month
  • Annual: £49.99/year (£4.17/month — save £9.89 vs monthly)

Both plans start with a 14-day free trial. You won't be charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel any time from your iPhone's App Store subscriptions page.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — every new subscription starts with a 14-day free trial. All features are available from day one during the trial. No payment is taken until the trial period ends.

To cancel before being charged, go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone and cancel HGV Nav before the trial expires.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through the App Store. To cancel:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone
  • Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions
  • Find HGV Nav and tap Cancel Subscription

You'll retain access until the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial periods, but you can contact support@hgvnav.com if you have billing questions.

How does truck-safe routing work?

When you set up your vehicle profile (height, weight, axle count, trailer type, and hazmat class), HGV Nav sends those parameters to the HERE and TomTom routing APIs. Both engines factor in bridge heights, weight-restricted roads, hazmat exclusion zones, and low-clearance tunnels when calculating your route.

The app runs both engines in parallel on Auto mode and returns the faster result, or you can pin to a specific engine in Settings → Navigation → Routing engine.

The route sent me somewhere I shouldn't go. What should I do?

Always obey physical road signs, which take legal precedence over any navigation app. If you encounter a restriction not reflected by the app, do not proceed.

Please report the issue to support@hgvnav.com with the road name and restriction details so we can flag it with our data providers.

How do I set my vehicle height, weight, and dimensions?

Tap the parameter strip at the bottom of the map screen (showing your vehicle type, height, and weight). This opens your vehicle profile where you can edit all dimensions, axle count, trailer type, fuel type, and hazmat class.

You can also reach it via Settings → Vehicle Profile.

Why is the speed limit showing wrong?

Speed limit data comes from the HERE database and is updated regularly but may lag behind recent sign changes. On National Speed Limit roads (no number posted), HGV Nav shows 60 mph for single carriageway and 70 mph for dual carriageway and motorway — these are the UK NSL values for HGVs.

Always follow the posted sign. If you believe the database is consistently wrong on a specific road, email us the location and we'll report it to HERE.

What are the map provider options?

HGV Nav supports three map providers:

  • Apple Maps — built in, no additional setup.
  • Mapbox — vector tiles with custom truck styling and offline map support.
  • Google Maps — full Google Maps experience rendered inside the app, with satellite view and familiar styling.

Switch between them in Settings → Map Display → Provider.

What is Yard Intel?

Yard Intel is a community database of driver-submitted notes for delivery yards, warehouses, and depots. Notes can include access instructions, low bridges on approach, bay availability, and photos.

To submit a note, tap a Yard Intel marker on the map or use the Yard Intel tab. Reports are anonymous — no user account is needed.

How do I use the vehicle pre-check?

The daily walkaround checklist is in Settings → Vehicle Check. It covers lights, tyres, coupling, mirrors, load security, and more. Items reset automatically each day. Completing it helps demonstrate due diligence under your duty-of-care obligations as a driver.

Does the app work offline?

When using Mapbox as your map provider, you can download map tiles for offline use. Route calculation requires an internet connection as it calls the HERE and TomTom APIs. Speed limit alerts and live intelligence layers (traffic, incidents, roadworks) also require connectivity.

How do I delete my data?

All preferences and checklist data are stored locally on your device and are deleted when you delete the app. If you submitted Yard Intel reports and want them removed, email support@hgvnav.com with the location and date of the report.

The app is crashing / not loading. What should I try?
  • Force-close and reopen the app.
  • Check you have a working internet connection.
  • Make sure iOS is up to date (the app requires iOS 18 or later).
  • Delete and reinstall the app (note: locally stored data will be lost).

If the problem persists, email support@hgvnav.com with your device model, iOS version, and a description of what happened.
