Privacy Policy

    Short version: HGV Nav does not collect personal accounts, does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not sell your data. Your GPS location is used only to provide navigation — it is not stored on our servers.
  

1. Who we are

HGV Nav is developed and operated by Michael Hipkiss (support@hgvnav.com). For the purposes of UK GDPR, Michael Hipkiss is the data controller.

2. What data the app collects

2a. Data processed on your device only

GPS location — used in real time to show your position on the map, calculate distance to manoeuvres, and trigger speed-limit alerts. Your location is never stored by HGV Nav on our servers.
App preferences — vehicle profile (height, weight, axle count, hazmat class), navigation settings, and overlay preferences are stored locally on your device using Apple's standard UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device.
Vehicle check data — daily pre-shift checklist items are stored locally and reset each day. Never transmitted.

2b. Data transmitted to third-party services

To provide routing, maps, and intelligence layers, HGV Nav sends certain data to the following third-party services. We do not control how these services handle your data; their own privacy policies apply.

Yard Intel reports you submit are stored on Supabase servers. Reports contain a GPS coordinate and any text or photo you choose to add. Reports are not linked to any user account or personal identifier.

3. What we do NOT collect

We do not create user accounts or collect names, email addresses, or payment details.
We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) or track you across other apps or websites.
We do not use analytics SDKs (e.g. Firebase, Mixpanel) or crash reporters that transmit personal data.
We do not store your GPS history, route history, or search history on our servers.

4. Legal basis for processing (UK GDPR)

Where UK GDPR applies, we process your data on the following bases:

Legitimate interests — sending location data to routing APIs is necessary to provide the core navigation service you have requested.
Consent — iOS asks for your permission before the app accesses your GPS location. You can withdraw this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → HGV Nav.

5. Data retention

HGV Nav itself does not retain your data on any server. Locally stored preferences persist until you delete the app. For data retained by third-party services, refer to their respective privacy policies listed above.

Yard Intel reports are stored until you request deletion or until the report is moderated.

6. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access data held about you; request correction or deletion; object to processing; and lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

To exercise any right or request deletion of a Yard Intel report you submitted, contact us at support@hgvnav.com.

7. Children

HGV Nav is intended for professional HGV drivers and is not directed at anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
